Sparkle expanded its European footprint this week with the launch of a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Helsinki, Finland. The deployment at Digita Data Center marks Sparkle’s second Nordic node after Stockholm, bringing its total number of PoPs in Europe to 89. The company said the move addresses rising demand for international IP transit from operators, ISPs, OTTs, and content providers across the Nordic and Baltic regions.
The Helsinki PoP is built around a 400GBE-enabled router and fully integrates with Sparkle’s Tier 1 global IP backbone, Seabone, enabling low-latency, high-capacity IP transit services capable of Terabit-scale throughput. Customers will also gain access to Sparkle’s broader suite of IP solutions, including DDoS protection and Virtual NAP, which offers remote access to leading Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) without the need for dedicated infrastructure.
Beyond IP transit, Sparkle continues to position itself as a full-spectrum ICT provider in Europe, offering SD-WAN, colocation, IoT connectivity, messaging, roaming, and voice services. The new node further strengthens Sparkle’s role in enabling digital transformation across Northern Europe, complementing its 600,000 km global fiber backbone and extensive subsea cable investments.
- Sparkle opens new PoP in Helsinki at Digita Data Center
- Brings European PoP total to 89, with Stockholm as existing Nordic hub
- Powered by 400GBE router, linked to Seabone Tier 1 global IP backbone
- Offers Terabit-scale IP transit, DDoS protection, and Virtual NAP services
- Expands portfolio of SD-WAN, colocation, IoT, roaming, and voice solutions
“This new PoP in Helsinki strengthens our presence in Northern Europe and further enhances the resilience and diversification of our global backbone,” Sparkle stated.
🌐 Analysis: Sparkle’s expansion into Helsinki reflects the growing importance of the Nordics and Baltics as digital gateways for Europe. With major subsea cable projects landing in the region, carriers are reinforcing redundancy and latency-sensitive routes. Sparkle’s strategy aligns with competitors such as Telia Carrier (Arelion), Lumen, and Cogent, all of which are scaling Nordic capacity to serve hyperscalers and CDNs. The Helsinki node also underscores Sparkle’s dual role as both a submarine cable player and continental IP transit provider.
