President Donald Trump announced the launch of the Stargate Project, a new American company that plans to invest an initial $100 billion in AI infrastructure across the United States, with the potential to scale up to $500 billion over the next four years. This ambitious initiative, supported by a consortium of major technology players and investors, aims to secure U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence, bolster national security, and re-industrialize the nation. The project is expected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and deliver significant economic benefits.

The initial equity backers of Stargate include SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX, with SoftBank assuming financial responsibility and OpenAI leading operational efforts. Masayoshi Son, Chairman of SoftBank, will serve as Stargate’s Chairman. Major technology partners Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI are contributing expertise and resources to the initiative. The buildout has begun in Texas, with additional campuses under evaluation. The collaboration builds on long-standing partnerships, such as OpenAI’s work with NVIDIA since 2016, and expands OpenAI’s collaboration with Oracle and Microsoft.

“Stargate represents a transformative moment for AI infrastructure development in the United States,” said Masayoshi Son. “This investment will not only advance AI innovation but also provide a strategic edge for America’s economy and security.”

• Key Points:

• Initial Investment: $100 billion to be deployed immediately, with potential total investment reaching $500 billion by 2029.

• Strategic Backers: SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX (an investment company based in the United Arab Emirates and chaired by H.H. Sheikh Talon bin Zayed Al Nahyan) are leading funding efforts, with SoftBank as financial lead and OpenAI as operational lead.

• Technology Partners: Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI contributing to system development and deployment.

• Focus Areas: Infrastructure projects will prioritize AI and AGI research, support for cloud services, and national security applications.

• Regional Expansion: Buildout has started in Abilene, Texas, with more sites under consideration. Larry Ellison, Oracle CEO, said the first 10 buildings of the data center campus are under construction, with each building being half a million square feet.

Microsoft Reaffirms Partnership with OpenAI

Microsoft announced its continued collaboration with OpenAI and Stargate, emphasizing the alignment with its existing agreements. Microsoft retains exclusive rights to OpenAI’s IP for its Azure platform and Copilot products, offering customers access to leading AI models. OpenAI has recently committed to additional Azure capacity for research and training, while Microsoft retains a right of first refusal on new capacity.

“We are excited to partner on Stargate and continue to support OpenAI’s advancements in AI,” said a Microsoft representative. “This initiative aligns with our long-standing efforts to empower organizations with the best AI solutions.”
