Sterlite Technologies Inc. (STI), the U.S. subsidiary of STL, has announced the self-certification of its optical fiber cable products under the Build America Buy America (BABA) requirements. This voluntary certification positions STI as a key supplier for federally funded broadband projects, including those supported by the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. The initiative ensures high-speed internet access expansion, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
STI has invested $56 million in its South Carolina manufacturing plant, where it produces a range of BABA-compliant products, including the Rapid series of high-capacity ribbonized and ruggedized fiber cables for applications such as duct, aerial, direct buried, and last-mile connectivity. STL also recently expanded its Optical Connectivity portfolio tailored specifically for U.S. customers, further strengthening its position in the North American market.
• Self-Certification: STL’s products meet BABA requirements for federally funded broadband projects.
• BEAD Program Eligibility: Aligns with NTIA’s standards for U.S.-sourced materials in broadband infrastructure projects.
• $56 Million Investment: South Carolina manufacturing facility dedicated to domestic production.
• Product Portfolio: Includes the Rapid series and optical connectivity products designed for diverse deployment needs.
• U.S. Commitment: Strengthens domestic job creation and infrastructure development.
Rahul Puri, CEO of STL Optical Networking, stated: “Our self-certification underscores our commitment to American manufacturing and broadband expansion under the BEAD Program, ensuring compliance with BABA regulations while helping bridge the digital divide.”
This milestone reinforces STL’s “In America, For America” strategy, supporting the next wave of broadband infrastructure with locally manufactured fiber optic solutions.
