Telefónica has activated emergency protocols in an effort to sustain operations across its network following the massive power outage across Spain and Portugal. The blackout has impacted millions across both countries, including major cities like Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia, disrupting critical infrastructure, halting trains, metro systems, traffic lights, phone networks, ATMs, and electronic payment systems.
Telefónica said it is using back-up power generators and batteries while awaiting the restoration of the electricity supply on which the network depends.
