Telia has selected Nokia to deploy its cloud-native 5G Standalone (SA) Core across Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and Lithuania, extending the companies’ long-term collaboration on next-generation mobile networks. The deployment will enhance network scalability and automation, supporting new enterprise and public-sector services while reducing operational complexity across Telia’s regional footprint.

In Finland, Telia will also expand its use of Nokia’s Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio to boost capacity, coverage, and speed, with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability goals. The upgraded 5G SA architecture will deliver lower latency and more consistent performance, enabling AI-driven network automation and new digital services for consumers and industry customers alike.

Nokia currently leads the global 5G SA market, with 127 operator customers and 54 live deployments. Omdia ranks Nokia first for core network capabilities, while Gartner lists the company as a Leader in its 2025 Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G Core Infrastructure.

• Nokia’s 5G Standalone Core to be deployed across five Telia markets

• RAN upgrade in Finland to enhance speed, capacity, and coverage

• Cloud-native architecture supports automation and new enterprise services

• Energy-efficient design aligns with Telia’s sustainability targets

• Nokia recognized by Gartner and Omdia for leadership in 5G core technology

“Our 5G networks are already world-class and trusted by entire societies,” said Alexandra Fürst, Chief Technology & Information Officer at Telia. “By advancing our infrastructure with Nokia, we will create new possibilities for customers across sectors, powered by intelligent and adaptive networks.”

🌐  Analysis: Telia’s adoption of Nokia’s cloud-native 5G SA core strengthens its leadership across the Nordic and Baltic regions while consolidating Nokia’s position as the top 5G core supplier in Europe. The move aligns with broader European momentum toward standalone 5G, following similar announcements from Deutsche Telekom and Orange, which are also emphasizing AI-based automation and energy-efficient network modernization.
