Tower Semiconductor and Alcyon Photonics have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at accelerating innovation in integrated photonics for the datacom, telecom, and optical sensing markets. Under the partnership, Alcyon Photonics will deliver silicon-validated photonic building blocks (BBs) and circuits leveraging Tower Semiconductor’s advanced, high-volume silicon photonics (SiPho) platform. This collaboration enables customers to seamlessly transition from concept to high-yield production, significantly reducing development cycles while ensuring exceptional performance and reliability. Alcyon’s proprietary design techniques, optimized for Tower’s SiPho platform, offer superior stability and maintain optical channel drifts below 3 nm despite fabrication variations of up to 30 nm, dramatically improving yield and manufacturability.

The partnership introduces specific solutions tailored for critical optical applications, including coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) solutions optimized for data center networking in the O-band, as well as advancements in coherent optical communications across the C+L bands. These solutions deliver increased capacity, enhanced scalability, and future-proof capabilities for rapidly expanding optical network requirements driven by AI workloads and high-speed data center interconnectivity. Through Tower Semiconductor’s high-volume manufacturing capability and Alcyon’s photonic IP, the collaboration provides cost-effective, robust, and scalable silicon photonic solutions to the market.

Tower Semiconductor’s Vice President of Customer Design Enablement, Dr. Samir Chaudhry, emphasized, “This partnership further reinforces our leadership in silicon photonics by providing validated, high-performance photonic components that accelerate customer innovation and drive next-generation photonic applications.”

• Tower Semiconductor partners with Alcyon Photonics to deliver silicon-proven photonic IP and building blocks.

• Solutions optimized for datacom, telecom, coherent communications, and sensing markets.

• Alcyon’s designs maintain stability with channel drift below 3 nm, enhancing manufacturability.

• Tower’s high-volume silicon photonics platform ensures high yield and reliable production.

• Demonstrations and further information available at OFC 2025, booth #3222.

“By combining our advanced photonics design expertise with Tower’s industry-leading foundry SiPho technology, we are enabling customers to create compelling new applications with a faster and more predictable development cycle,” stated Jimena García-Romeu, CEO of Alcyon Photonics.

  • Silicon photonics leverages semiconductor fabrication techniques to integrate optical and electronic components onto a single silicon chip, enabling high-speed, low-power data transmission. Tower’s advanced SiPho platform facilitates high-density integration, reduced optical losses, and improved thermal management, essential for high-volume optical interconnects. Alcyon Photonics enhances these capabilities by developing silicon-proven photonic circuits with unparalleled stability and minimal performance variation, significantly accelerating photonics integration into commercial products.
