Vantage Data Centers Invests $3 Billion in AI-Focused Campus Near Reno, Nevada

Vantage Data Centers plans to develop a $3 billion hyperscale data center campus just outside Reno, Nevada. Marking the company’s eighth market in North America, the 224MW “NV1” campus in Storey County will span four multi-story facilities totaling over 1 million square feet. The first two buildings are already fully leased, with the initial facility slated to go live in Q2 2026.

Targeting AI-intensive workloads, NV1 is engineered for compute densities ranging from 360W to over 720W per square foot, with support for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled environments. The campus will offer N+1 electrical and N+2 mechanical redundancy, with a focus on energy and water efficiency. Its closed-loop chiller system aims to minimize water usage and achieve a low water usage effectiveness (WUE), while the site targets LEED certification for sustainable construction.

Vantage’s move aligns with a broader trend of hyperscale providers expanding into emerging U.S. regions beyond Tier I data center hubs. Nevada’s low-cost power, strategic location, and growing technology presence—home to existing campuses from Google, Apple, and Microsoft—make it a competitive choice for AI infrastructure. The project is expected to create over 1,200 jobs and deliver long-term economic impact to the region.

“As the global race for AI dominance continues, Vantage is leading the delivery of digital infrastructure to support the innovation and applications of the world’s largest technology enterprises,” said Dana Adams, President, North America at Vantage Data Centers.

Highlights:

  • Investment: $3 billion
  • Location: Storey County, Nevada (Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center)
  • Capacity: 224MW across four buildings
  • Size: Over 1 million square feet
  • First building launch: Q2 2026
  • Cooling: Air + liquid, supporting GPU-heavy AI workloads
  • Power densities: 360W–720W per square foot
  • Sustainability: Closed-loop chiller, low WUE, LEED certification targeted
  • Jobs created: Over 1,200 construction and operations roles
