Vantage Data Centers secured a $1.6 billion investment from GIC and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) to accelerate its Asia-Pacific expansion, including the acquisition of a 300MW+ hyperscale campus in Johor, Malaysia. The investment follows DigitalBridge’s recent acquisition of Yondr Group’s portfolio, from which Vantage is purchasing the Johor site. Both GIC and ADIA are long-term investors in Vantage and reaffirmed their support for scaling sustainable AI and cloud infrastructure in the region.
The Johor campus, to be branded JHB1, sits on 73 acres within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Once complete, it will deliver more than 300MW of IT capacity across three data centers, with proximity to Singapore enabling dark fiber connectivity. Designed for sustainability, the campus incorporates direct-to-chip liquid cooling and aims for EDGE certification. Originally financed via a green loan, JHB1 reflects Vantage’s approach to sustainable digital infrastructure.
The deal positions Vantage as one of the largest hyperscale operators in Asia-Pacific, with 1GW of operational and planned IT capacity across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Johor’s rise as a hyperscale hub—driven by Singapore spillover demand, competitive land economics, and government incentives—has made it a focal point for global digital infrastructure investment.
- $1.6B investment led by affiliates of GIC and ADIA
- Vantage to acquire Yondr’s Johor campus (73 acres, 300MW+)
- Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone location with dark fiber links
- Campus features direct-to-chip liquid cooling, EDGE certification path, and green loan financing
- Vantage’s APAC portfolio reaches 1GW across five markets
“With the support of GIC and ADIA, we are positioned as one of the largest providers of sustainable AI and cloud digital infrastructure in the region,” said Jeremy Deutsch, president of Vantage APAC. “Adding the Johor campus to our portfolio will bring our APAC footprint to 1GW of capacity.”
🌐 Analysis: Vantage is doubling down on Southeast Asia at a time when Johor is emerging as a pressure valve for Singapore’s tight data center market. The move underscores how sovereign wealth funds are increasingly backing hyperscale infrastructure as AI reshapes demand curves. DigitalBridge, GIC, and ADIA now form a powerful consortium behind Vantage, mirroring similar capital-backed expansion pushes by rivals like STT GDC and Princeton Digital.
