Verizon to Offer 100 Mbps Broadband Home Router by Actiontec

Verizon will supply a new broadband home router manufactured by Actiontec Electronics to new customers of its FiOS broadband and video services.

Verizon said the new router — designed and built to Verizon’s specifications — forms the basis of its digital home architecture. The router is capable of providing connectivity to the FiOS network at speeds of up to 100 Mbps, leverages existing in-home wiring (Multimedia over Coax Alliance – MoCA), and uses the DSL Forum’s TR-069 specification for remote management.

The optical network terminal (ONT) where Verizon’s fiber terminates at the customer’s home will soon be upgraded with technology similar to the Broadband Home Router.

“The Broadband Home Router will be the centerpiece of our customer’s home network. It delivers the clear advantages of fiber-optic technology directly to our customer’s home devices, offering a superior customer experience for our voice, data and video services,” stated Verizon Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Mark Wegleitner.

Features of the box include:

  • 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi
  • 4-port 10/100 switch
  • 2 MoCA channels for separate WAN and LAN connections
  • UPnP support
  • QoS support (End to end Layer 2 / 3), Diffserv, 802.1p/q Prioritization, Configurable Upstream/Downstream Traffic Shaping, Random Early Detection
  • DHCP Server Option
  • Fully customizable firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection
  • Parental Controls
