ADVA Enhances its FSP 150 Ethernet Access Device

ADVA Optical Networking rolled out new capabilities for its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 150 series including a Gigabit Ethernet port, a new tandem node protection mechanism, and an enhanced customer premise demarcation unit. Release 2.0 of the ADVA FSP 150 is aimed at supporting new Ethernet transport applications, such as backhauling traffic from an IP DSLAM. Key features of the FSP 150 include:

  • Support for Ethernet First Mile (EFM) OAM
  • Secure hardware based aggregation via IEEE802.1Q tagging
  • Optional protection on all units
  • Performance monitoring out to customer premise
  • Support for point-to-point, tree, chain, and ring topologies
  • FSP 150 CP also adds a GigE port, auto-negotiate functions, asymmetric pause, and support for Jumbo Frames
  • the FSP 150 MG aggregation device adds 6 x GigE Optical access interfaces (SFP), a 1 + 1 network interface arrangement, 2 x stacked management interfaces, and traffic management to handle oversubscription

ADVA’s FSP 150 supports Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) features found in the IEEE802.3ah, Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard. ADVA has optimized network management and enhanced carrier flexibility in a variety of ways:

  • The new FSP 150CP demarcation device supports variable data rates up to and including Gigabit Ethernet, allowing support for a host of diverse carrier services including Emulated Line, Emulated LAN and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. This capability enables migration to tuneable-bandwidth services.
  • The new FSP 150MG aggregation device’s rate-control functionality enables over-subscription of #bursty,# sub-rated Gigabit Ethernet traffic from up to six customers, ensuring optimal usage of available network bandwidth for applications such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) backhaul.
  • The FSP 150 tandem node protection capability insulates the core and access domains of the carrier network. Protection events that occur in either domain of the network are handled locally and transparently. This unique feature cost-effectively delivers carrier-grade protection for Ethernet services in tree-and-branch or ring networks without requiring overlay protocols such as Spanning Tree that are complex to administer.
  • Advanced performance monitoring and traffic management have been implemented across the entire FSP 150 family, enabling carriers to more efficiently maintain service-level agreements (SLAs). These traffic-control mechanisms are compliant with Metro Ethernet Forum standards.
  • Release 2.0 of the FSP 150 product family is currently available.
