Level 3 Announces International Voice Service

January 11, 2004

A A

Level 3 Communications has begun offering its (3)Voice Termination services internationally. Level 3 originally launched its (3)Voice Termination service in December 1999 and for more than four years has been terminating calls in the U.S. for PTTs, inter-exchange carriers, cable operators and other companies. In December 2003, Level 3 significantly expanded its softswitch-based (3)Voice Termination service by enabling customers to hand off traffic directly to Level 3 using an IP interface.

The current announcement builds on the company’s recent introduction of (3)Tone, an enhanced business voice service that Level 3 markets to local telephone companies, systems integrators, CLECs, and value-added resellers.

Also, in September 2003, Level 3 introduced (3)VoIP MARKETPLACE, a service targeted at call center operators, voice portals, and conferencing providers. This service allows customers to establish a local presence on the PSTN and receive locally dialed calls. Calls can be placed into the network via Level 3-assigned or customer-ported local telephone numbers. Level 3’s softswitch platform converts the calls to IP and routes them to Level 3’s MPLS-enabled backbone for delivery to the customer’s own IP voice application. Local VoIP-PSTN presence is provided in 73 markets across the U.S. http://www.Level3.com/voice
