Lucent Joins Boeing-Led Team Competing for Secure Border Contract

Lucent Technologies was selected as a member of the Boeing team that is pursuing the SBInet contract. he Boeing-led team submitted its proposal to the U.S. government and is competing for an estimated $2 billion contract award.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Secure Border Initiative (SBI) aims to secure U.S. borders and reduce illegal immigration. The SBInet contract is expected to be awarded in September 2006.

In addition to Lucent, the Boeing-led SBInet team includes the following major contractors DRS Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group (Palm Bay, Fla.), Kollsman (Merrimack, N.H.), L-3 Communications (Washington, D.C.), Perot Systems (Plano, Texas)– Unisys Global Public Sector (Reston, Va.) — Unisys Global Public Sector has expertise in homeland security and law enforcement information systems and information technology infrastructure, engineering, operations and maintenance.

  • Ericsson is leading another consortium seeking to provide high-speed mobile broadband technology and IP applications to address the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Secure Border Initiative (SBInet). The ABSG team led by Ericsson includes Computer Sciences Corporation; Fluor Corporation; SYColeman Corporation, a division of L3 Communications; MTC Technologies; CAMBER Corporation; AEP Networks ; Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin.

    Ericsson’s Border and Area Security (EBAS) system is already operational in the European Union (EU) as part of the EU’s Schengen secure border surveillance project.
