RadiSys Introduces Convedia Software Media Server

RadiSys introduced a software-only IP audio and video media processing server for Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) and Linux-based platforms.

The Convedia Software Media Server is available on the company’s Promentum ATCA-4300 dual-core dual Xeon compute processing module as well as the IBM System x3550 server. The platform, which is based the same technology used in the company’s existing hardware media servers, provides equipment manufacturers and independent software vendors with an entry-level enterprise solution that is compatible with existing Convedia interfaces, while also addressing the growing trend toward deploying ATCA-based products.

The new product positions RadiSys as a unique supplier of both software- and hardware-based media processing products for Enterprise VoIP and IMS markets. It also marks the first product based on integrated technology from RadiSys and Convedia since the acquisition was completed just nine months ago.

“The IP media server market is one that requires a multi-faceted approach rather than a one-size fits all model,” said Peter Briscoe, executive vice president and general manager of RadiSys Media Server business unit.
