Symmetricom Delivers Precise Timing for Packet Backhaul

Symmetricom introduced its “TimeProvider” 1500 (TP1500) packet-based primary reference source (PRS) clock, which can be used in Carrier Ethernet packet backhaul networks as a complement to a traditional cesium clock or a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) antenna installation.

Symmetricom’s TP1500 combines the rubidium QUANTUM miniature atomic clock (MAC) and its “PackeTime” technology to deliver primary reference level synchronization in areas where GNSS coverage or antenna deployment is challenged, and supports migration from TDM to Ethernet-based networks. The TP1500 adheres to the IEEE 1588-2008 protocol specification, and leverages the capabilities of its TimeProvider 5000 Grandmaster to provide packet-based PRS services for the radio access network (RAN). The TP1500 product is part of Symmetricom’s TimeProvider suite of products that are based on the IEEE 1588-2008 standard.
