Nokia has secured a three-year agreement with Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) to deploy 4G and 5G equipment across key Indian cities. The deal also includes upgrading VIL’s existing 4G network, expanding its capacity, and boosting coverage for over 200 million subscribers. Nokia is set to become the largest supplier for VIL in regions generating more than 50% of its revenue, replacing the current vendor in Chennai and Andhra Pradesh. Deployment is slated to begin immediately.
The partnership will see Nokia providing its energy-efficient AirScale portfolio, powered by ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, to ensure seamless 5G connectivity. Nokia’s offerings will include base stations, baseband units, and Habrok Massive MIMO radios, which promise improved capacity and easy integration. Additionally, Nokia will modernize the 4G infrastructure with multiband radios, paving the way for 5G upgrades.
Vodafone Idea will also implement Nokia’s MantaRay SON, a network optimization platform that enhances efficiency through automation. Nokia will offer services in planning, deployment, and integration to maximize the network’s potential.
